Consumers Cooperative, Sauk City, Wisconsin is a very successful cooperative located in South Central Wisconsin. The cooperative is a $25+ million dollar Energy coop that consists of 5 C stores in the Sauk City, Prairie du Sac area. The coop also provides propane and bulk refined fuels.  Annual sales are projected at $25 million which includes 5.2 million gallons at the C stores with 2 car wash locations.  The Coop also sells 2 million gallons of Fuel through AFD delivery system and transports.  The Coop operates 2 propane plants which sells 2.3 million gallons.  The Cooperative also owns retail store rental property and land in the community.

This position requires management experience, sales experience, accounting skills as well as an understanding of finance/budgeting, planning and business process controls. The position also requires good communications, supervisory, public relations and organizational skills to manage the total operation. The successful candidate will work extensively with a five member board. The ideal candidate must be able to make decisions and work independently. The candidate must be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Manage the operation of the entire business according to Consumers Cooperative objectives to provide patrons with prompt, courteous and effective service while maintaining the efficiency necessary to achieve a return on investment.
  • Manage a program of safety and equipment maintenance to avoid breakdowns and limit safety hazards. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment. 
  • Evaluate patron credit needs and extend credit in accordance with Consumers Cooperative policies.  Monitor credit liability and manage the collection of accounts receivable.
  • Monitor the daily pricing and contracting of propane and refine fuels to effectively manage inventory risk.
  • Educate both employees and patrons in the operations of the business objectives to enhance employee effectiveness and improve customer relations.
  • Establish and implement short-term goals that are consistent with long-range plans for growth in the operation, including facility, equipment and personnel. 
  • Communicate with department managers to coordinate and complete all aspects of the consolidated operation.
  • Communicate with the Board of Directors and members of Consumers Cooperative.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends or changes to accurately answer patron inquiries.
  • Manage Consumers Cooperative’s workforce through responsible training and clear job assignment definition and explanation, including organizational chart, job descriptions, and regular employee reviews (annual).
  • Continue to build a strong sales and marketing culture.
  • Monitor the work of all employees to correct deficient performance and effectively reward and develop all employees.
  • Oversee the information provided for month-end close, inventory valuation, bringing contracts to market, physical, inventory, freight, etc.
  • Properly document daily and month end accounting transactions and perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Basic Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4 year minimum degree in Agriculture, Energy or Business or 5 – 7 years of Cooperative Management / CEO or experience equivalent.
  • Previous Retail or C store management experience would be helpful.
