Grain Marketing and Origination Account Manager

Position Overview: 
The openings is due to healthy growth within the organization and will be at a branch with team members that will help support this role.  This position will utilize the total farm approach by working as a team in providing on-the-farm solutions to the grower.  Through incorporating customer service and supporting other business units, the grain originator position will bring a new way of supporting growers not only through marketing grain but by working with the regional sales team to offer additional resources.  This position is designed to be a mid-career/experienced-level role. 
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Develop a client base through on-farm visits, meetings, presentations and referrals. Build lasting relationships with farmers through the strength of the cooperative system values.
  • Have the ability to explain agricultural markets, local basis, commodity trading and the concepts behind marketing to co-op customers.
  • Optimize the value of grain for producers by working with a cross-divisional team.
  • Partner with the Grain Marketing Manager to plan, develop and implement grain purchasing strategies to maximize origination goals.
  • Interact with all customer’s operation including an understanding of all customer needs including supporting other business units.  Having strong agronomy knowledge will be essential for this role.
  • Manage operations and logistics costs and work with grain division to maximize efficiencies.
  • Prepare grain/inventory reports, grain purchase contracts and complete other relevant paperwork efficiently and accurately.
  • Make cold and warm calls in country (at least 60% of the time will need to be on-farm calls)   office phone calls and assist with customer walk in business.
  • The grain originator will uphold cooperative policies, comply with OHSA regulations, follow all safety and compliance guidelines and perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • 4 year degree in Agriculture. (3-5 years related job experience may substitute for education)
  • Excellent communication skills, including following-up with customers, strong verbal and written skills and ability to handle multiple responsibilities at a time
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement farm sales calls
  • Ability and wiliness to work long hours, travel, be on call and serve as a business consultant
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Experience in grain origination and operations
  • Previous experience in logistics and marketing
