Rugby Farmers Union Elevator Company, Rugby, North Dakota is a very successful $100 million dollar grain only cooperative with 3 locations and a shuttle loading facility.
 
Desired Previous Experience:
 
  • The ideal candidate will have successful senior level experience in the Coop Grain industry.   The candidate must have a strong track record of success with increasing levels of responsibility and accountability in his/her career and strong overall business knowledge.   Cooperative experience is not required but knowledge of the cooperative system is highly desired
     
  • The ideal candidate will have been a General Manager or Grain Merchant during their professional career with substantive P&L responsibility.  However, all candidates will be evaluated regarding their individual situations regarding job complexity, P&L and balance sheet accountability, and results/success. 
     
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of the Grain industry
     
  • The candidate must understand risk management concepts.  The ideal candidate will have risk management experience and/or exposure in the following areas:  safety, insurance, Grain marketing and hedging
     
  • The ideal candidate will have driven the annual and capital budgeting process for his/her company or division. 
     
  • The ideal candidate will have driven a strategic planning process and have demonstrated success in implementing strategic and annual plans
     
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in Grain origination and contracting. 
     
  • The candidate must have had supervisory experience where a management team or staff has reported to the individual. 
     
  • The ideal candidate will have experience reporting to a Board of Directors.  
     
  • The candidate must show a demonstrated interest in their own personal development

    • Overall analytical skills
    • Balance sheet management
    • Understanding of the P&L, and the impact of actions on the P&L
  
  • Risk management skills.  This includes:
    • Overall grasp of safety and regulatory requirements
    • Understanding of grain risk management
    • Understanding of insurance requirements and subsequent premium ratings
 
  • Employee development skills. This includes:
    • Recruiting and hiring the right people
    • Motivating and developing department heads and employees
 
  • Planning and implementation skills. This includes:
    • Leading annual strategic planning
    • Overseeing annual planning and implementation
    • Delivering projects on-time and on-budget
 
  • Self-Improvement:
    • Attends manager's association and other management training meetings
    • Attends community and promotional meetings when possible
    • Keeps up-to-date on new trends in merchandising, management, financing, and technology
