CHS Border States Coop has an exciting opportunity in our Country Operations Division. We are looking for a  General Manager to  lead the Border States agronomy, grain and energy business.  Border States Coop is a profitable business with approximately $60M in sales.  Core businesses include agronomy and agronomy services, grain, and energy. 
To be successful in this role you must be able to develop and execute a strategy for the business, communicate to, develop and manage a competent team.  Engage and work with a local Board of Directors.  Critical skills include; people skills, communication, finance, budgeting, planning, business process controls, leadership, public relations and organizational skills to manage the total operation.  You must be able to make decisions, work independently, and be detail oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
CHS Border States Coop is a diverse cooperative with 6 locations located in western Minnesota and South Dakota.     
You will:
  • Manage the operation according to company objectives to provide patrons with prompt, courteous and effective service while maintaining the efficiency necessary to achieve a maximum margin of profit.
  • Establish and implement an EH&S program that follows CHS company guidelines and policies
  • Establish and manage a patron credit program that is in accordance with company policies.  Monitor credit liability and manage the collection of accounts receivable.
  • Monitor the daily long/short position for grain, agronomy, petroleum and freight.  Effectively control handling, storage, and transportation capabilities.
  • Lead employees and patrons in the daily execution of the operation of the Coop’s business, objectives to enhance employee effectiveness and improve customer relations.
  • Establish and implement short-term goals that are consistent with long-range plans for growth in operation, including facility, equipment and personnel.
  • Utilize team / personnel within company to maximize profitability for the Coop as a company.
  •  Develop the Border States workforce through responsible training, coaching and clear job assignment definition and explanation, consistent feedback through regular employee reviews (annual).
  • Monitor the work of all employees to correct deficient performance and effectively reward and develop all employees.
  • Oversee the information provided for month-end close, inventory valuation, bringing contracts to market, physical inventory, freight, etc.  Properly document daily and month-end accounting transactions for compliance with the owners’ Sarbanes-Oxley procedures.
  • Oversee the administration of company policies and procedures to ensure our promise of helping our owners grow is fulfilled
  • Conduct ongoing communication with Board of Directors, management, and appropriate divisional personnel
  • Keep abreast of industry trends & changes with the purpose of positioning the business to remain relevant and profitable.
  • Be visible to patrons developing relationships that generates loyalty and better understanding of Border States goals and objectives
  • Create a safe effective and progressive work environment
Basic Qualifications: (required)
  • Degree in Agriculture or Business  (additional years of Cooperative management experience may offset education)
  • 5 plus years of Cooperative Manager experience
Preferred Qualifications: (desired)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Business
  • 10 years of Ag business experience to include;
    • P&L and budgeting experience
